The Land Conservation Department (LCD) works with Taylor County citizens and local, state, and federal agencies and organizations to provide information, technical assistance, and financial aid for the conservation and protection of natural resources throughout the county. The LCD is responsible for administering the natural resource conservation and protection programs and policies of the Land Conservation Committee. In cooperation with citizens and technical advisory committees, the LCD has developed a Land and Water Resource Management Plan for Taylor County. Programs and services provided by the LCD include Nutrient Management Planning, The Farmland Preservation Program, soil testing, tree sales, invasive species information, and a drinking water education and testing program. Conservation planning assistance is provided through cooperation with the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Cost-share programs may help with financial assistance for some conservation practices. The LCD oversees the Wildlife Damage Abatement and Claims Program and the County Conservation Aids Program. The LCD also sponsors several awards for citizens who set a good example of wise resource practices and sponsors a variety of environmental education programs for children and adults.

"Serving the county's land and water resources conservation needs."
